Simple Savings: Don't Be Afraid To Substitute - The Godiva Chocolate Bunny Banana Bread

One way to save money in the kitchen is to substitute something if you don't have the ingredient called for in a recipe.  Some of the best meals I have made have been from substituting what I had on hand in place of what was called for in the recipe.  You also have recipes that don't taste as good when you substitute, but if it saves you a trip to the store and money as well then why not try it?

This morning I looked through my small freezer as I was making lunches.  I decided to make some banana bread and wanted to make it marbled with chocolate.  I didn't have any chocolate chips on hand, so I melted some of the remains of a chocolate Godiva bunny leftover from Easter.  The chocolate part of the bread looked much lighter than usual, but it worked and tastes great.  It saved me a trip to the store and money as well.  I also was able to use 3 frozen bananas and some of the leftover chocolate in the freezer.  The banana bread will last through lunches for the rest of the school year.

Next time you find yourself missing one of the ingredients in a recipe, use your creativity and see what you come up with!
