October Health Challenge: Fresh Fruit

Several other cultures don't have a lot of sweets like people do in America.  I remember being in Hong Kong and that just wasn't something I saw a lot of while I was there.  We also have friends who don't ever serve dessert when we go to their home.  It really is kind of nice, because you don't have to be tempted.  Eating fresh fruit can be a great substitute for desserts.  I was watching my husband spread jam on his pancakes the other day and realized that although jam has sugar, there are other options.  For example, I could just eat the pancake with peanut butter alone.  I could also eat the pancake with peanut butter and fresh strawberries, blueberries or bananas.  I don't have to go without.  I just need to tweak it a bit.  Watermelon is a great thing to eat when you want something sweet.  So is pineapple.  Next time everyone else is eating brownies or cookies, pull out a piece of fruit and join them while eating something a little bit different.
