Green and Siimple: Eliminate One Thing at a Time

It is definitely hard to change habits.  We started composting this summer, thanks to some of our earth-friendly company who came to visit.  I am so used to just discarding food scraps in the trash or garbage disposal.  The little change is hard.  But, I keep trying...

We all can try to live a greener lifestyle, one step at a time.  So, how can we break it down so it is manageable?  Think about the things you do each day.  Each week or each month, try to change something simple that you are doing now to live a greener lifestyle.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Use reusable bags instead of plastic bags this week.

Use a water bottle instead of bottled water.

Get your coffee in a reusable cup instead of a disposable one.

Bring your own container for leftovers when going out so you don't use a container to go.

Use rags instead of paper towels.

Reuse your towels for the whole week instead of washing more frequently.

Use environmentally friendly cleaners.  Use less to make up the cost difference.  For example, I use 7th generation dishwasher soap, but only put 1 to 2 tablespoons for each load.  I also use about 1/3 to 1/4 as much laundry soap and use 7th generation or Method or Meyers.

Buy used clothing instead of new.

In the long run, saving the earth also saves money.  Everyone is better off in the end.
