Many people may not have a big freezer, but most people have a small freezer. Whatever size you have, it is good to know what is in your freezer and use it before it expires. We have been eating down the food in the big freezer and today is the day to clear the rest of it out, put it all in the small freezer above the fridge to be used and start all over putting new food in the big freezer for the next year. I really don't need to do any shopping at all this week, but I am going to buy a few things to put in the big freezer once I finish cleaning it. We have some rhubarb that we cut yesterday and I will chop it up and put it in the freezer. The leftover rhubarb from last year is in the small freezer so I will have them separated and know which to use first. I hate to waste food, so cleaning out my cupboards and freezer periodically really makes a difference so I can keep on top of what needs to be used. I have read about people who have 3-5 freezers. I don't know how they do it. I can't imagine keeping on top of things with so much food to go through. Last year we had a rhubarb crisp every week for a few months so we could use it up. It looks like we may have to do that this year also since we have about 8 containers left with rhubarb in them. It will be nice to use things up and get a fresh start!
How often do you clean out your freezer? What are your ideas about rotating food in your freezer so you don't waste food?
