First Things First

Sometimes in the excitement of getting a closet or room decluttered, it is easy to skip doing the dishes or laundry or making dinner because you are so involved with the task at hand.  When everyone gets home, you have a clean closet but you don't have the daily things attended to and makes things a little frustrating.  Before tackling a closet or room, first look around and see if there are dishes in the sink or a load of laundry that you can put in to wash while you are working on the area you want to declutter.  While you work throughout the day, think of what to make for dinner and if any preparation needs to be done.  Take small breaks throughout the day and do a little bit of preparation for dinner each time.  This way you get a clean room, but not at the expense of the things that really need to be done that day.

  1. Oh nelly - am I guilty of this. I tend to get very very very focused on a single task which then puts me behind the power curve with everything else.
I saved this post in my little electronic to-do list so I won't forget this great advice!
You really knock these little tidbits of common sense right outta the ballpark! Nice job!

  2. Thanks for the comment. It is very easy for me to get focused on a certain task, too, and it is nice to know that someone else has that challenge sometimes. It doesn't take very much time to do the daily work of dishes and laundry, and it helps to feel better if I do them before tackling the task I really want to focus on.
