Simple Savings: Find Another Way to Use It

I was cleaning out the fridge this morning to see what needs to be used before preparing my menu for the week. There were some grapefruits and oranges that had been there a while and didn't look to appetizing to eat. There was some celery that started to brown a little on the leaves. There was also some broccoli that needed to be used. They were on their last leg, but still edible. I juiced the oranges and grapefruit and we had the juice for breakfast. I cut off the brown parts of the celery and will use it in a soup. I cut the broccoli so it is ready to use right away and we will have it in some form tonight. I will take a few minutes and check out a few recipes if I have time, or I will just make a stir fry or a rice and broccoli casserole for dinner. Sometimes things don't look the greatest to eat alone, but you can salvage what is good and use it another way like juicing or putting it in a soup or casserole before it goes bad.

  1. Great tips! I am working hard not to waste any food and to cut down on waste in general. I was doing good until Sunday. I made a soup that did not come out right :( I have been freezing many of my herbs in ice cube trays before they go bad so I can just pop them into soups, stews, etc.

  2. I hate it when a recipe doesn't turn out right! Good idea with the herbs.
