$50 Grocery Challenge - Spent $ 50.15

This is most of my shopping for the week.  Last Thursday, I found Organic Valley milk for only $1.69 so I stocked up.  I bought 25 for a total of  $42.25.  I also bought some bananas on sale.  I think they wre 39 cents a pound and I bought about 7 or 8 pounds I think.  Since I don't have my receipt, I will just go with the larger number and say that I spent $3.12 on bananas.  We weighed one of the bunches and it was only around 2 pounds so I think I am estimating high.  The total of $45.37 for the milk and bananas.

I spent a total of $4.78 for the items above.  I went a little over budget, but I wanted to make the recipes on my menu so I just decided to do it.  I had credit of $3.27 for a return and that helped.  I couldn't buy organic dairy in the picture, but that is ok for this week.  If I had the receipt for the other shopping trip, I think I spent less on the bananas and that would have made it under $50 but I didn't so I am not going to worry about going over this week.  I will make a few substitutions like substituting green salsa for green chilies and for red salsa.

Another thing that helped this week is that some friends of ours were going through their freezer and wanted to get rid of some produce from their garden last year.  They asked if I wanted it and I was surprised to get 3 shopping bags full of produce when I went to pick it up.  So, I have broccoli, spinach, green beans and rhubarb that will last a while.

How was your shopping trip this week?  Link up and share!

  2. I did. We don't mind drinking milk that has been frozen. When it is the half gallon it thaws out quite nicely.

  3. Thanks for stopping by my site. For some reason I can never link up on your site. I have tried for several weeks now. Just not working.

  4. Fantastic job! It's so rare to find organic milk at a price that doesn't make me want to cry lol. We tend to either do soy milk or organic depending on which one I find a good deal for.
