The Crappy Dinner Party

I came across this term a couple of weeks ago.  My first thought was that someone went to a party and didn't have a good time.  Upon further investigation, I found out that this is a "thing" where people deliberately have a "Crappy Dinner Party".  Let me explain.

I bet some of you can relate when you want to have people over, but it takes too much effort to clean the house, make a nice meal and look presentable.  You just forget having people over and miss out on spending time with friends.  With the Crappy Dinner Party, you let everyone know you are having a Crappy Dinner Party, and this lets you and your company skip worrying about all of that stuff and just have a good time.

There are rules for a Crappy Dinner Party, but you can set some of your own if you want to do one.

For example:

 1.  You can't go grocery shopping and buy stuff to make a nice meal.  You have to bring or cook something with ingredients you already have in the house.  Maybe you can even do a potluck leftovers party if you want to.

2.  You can't clean your house.  What you see is what you get.  If there are clothes on the floor, cheerios on the floor or a few dishes in the sink, it is ok.  They are coming to see you and not your house.

3.  You can't get all dressed up and wear make up.  You wear whatever you already have on for the day and don't take the time to curl your hair perfectly or put on make up if you don't already have it on.

Frankly, it sounds like a lot of fun.  Too many times we don't spend time with people because we are so concerned about what our homes look like or if we are good enough.  So, next time you want some time to spend with friends or family, have a Crappy Dinner Party and just enjoy yourself.
