I find that it is easier for kids to keep their rooms clean if you have a designated playroom. That being said, I wasn't able to spare an extra room when my kids were young. But, it is nice if you happen to have a separate room or space for toys.
I bought something with little tubs to keep the toys in our playroom clean. It also limits the amount I can keep as well, so that will help with keeping it clean. Every toy will have a place. Now that it is summer, playing outside is great for kids. But, I do like to have some toys for when the weather isn't great, which happens here in Montana many months of the year.
For toys like Legos and Playmobil, I like to have tubs with lids. Sometimes it is nice to separate the toys and rotate them so kids don't get tired of playing with the same things day after day.
