Recycling Plastic: Can You Recycle Ziploc Bags?

Out of curiosity, I decided to look up and find just what you can recycle in the plastic bag recycling bins in some stores.  I also looked at Ziploc's website for the information about Ziploc bags, which previously I had heard that we can't recycle.  I have been throwing them away since I didn't think they could be recycled.

If any one has had experience with this, please comment and share what you know.

Here is a quote from the website:

"We’re thrilled to announce that Ziploc® brand Bags are recyclable. Simply visit just about any store that offers a plastic-bag recycling program and place your used Ziploc® Bags (clean and dry) in the same bins as those plastic shopping bags."

To find a place to recycle plastic near you go here and type in your zip code.

The Ziploc website also includes a list of following items that can be recycled as well:

  • Ziploc® brand Bags (clean and dry)
  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Plastic retail bags
  • Newspaper bags
  • Dry-cleaning bags
  • Bread bags and produce bags
  • Toilet paper, napkin and paper-towel wraps
  • Plastic shipping envelopes
  • All clean bags labeled #2 or #4
