How Clutter Is Like An All You Can Eat Buffet

Many of us have eaten at restaurants that have an "All You Can Eat Buffet".  It is fun to see all of the choices, but the fact of the matter is that you can only eat so much food.  When I have the occasion to eat at one of these places, I look over everything first and then decide what I will eat.  I focus on eating more expensive items like fresh pineapple or maybe get some meat that I don't buy regularly.  I don't waste my calories on rolls, carrots, corn, or other foods that are really cheap.  Now is the time to get things like sushi or fresh mozzarella balls, or Kalamata olives and other things that I really like and feel are worth the money it costs to go out.

We can use this same strategy with our things at home.  There is a limited amount of time we have in a day and a limited amount of space in our home.  If a child were to play with toys for 90 minutes, he could play with 10 toys for 9 minutes each or play with 5 toys for 18 minutes each or play with 3 toys for 30 minutes each.  Do you really need the extra toys hanging around the house taking up space that your child doesn't play with?  Why not just keep the ones he really enjoys and donate or sell the rest?  You can only wear so many clothes.  Chances are that you have clothes in your closet that you never wear.  Why keep taking up the space with things your don't like enough to wear regularly?  Why not get rid of them and clear up the extra clutter in your closet?  Figure out what you really need, use and love, and make more space to enjoy them by getting rid of the extra things in your "All You Can Buy Buffet"  at home.  Chances are that there is a lot more stuff in your house than you need.
