Simple Savings: Don't Buy Paper Towels

If you use paper towels to clean, etc., try going one month without buying or using any. Instead, use rags, old clothing you never use, old cloth diapers, etc. instead. I am not asking you to skip toilet paper - I wouldn't do that myself. But, paper towels aren't a necessity in my mind. You can just wash the rags with a towel load of laundry each week. Rags, old washcloths, old towels, etc. work much better than paper towels and you will save money. I do keep a couple of rolls of paper towels in the pantry just in case of an emergency, but I use cloth napkins instead of paper, rags instead of paper towels and I try very hard to avoid using any disposable tableware even on a busy day.

  1. I agree with you 100%. I keep a roll or two of paper towels only because now and again I fry something that needs to be drained on paper towels. When I do use the towels for draining fried food I use a layer or two of newspaper under a paper towel. That way I do not need to use too much paper towels.

  2. That's a great idea to use the newspaper underneath. I will have to try that next time. Thanks!
