$50 Grocery Challenge - Spent $33.47 so far...

I am posting a day late this week. I was planning on taking another week off, but decided not to after all. I haven't felt well the last few days, so my husband went shopping for me. I just asked him to try to stay in the $50 if possible and he did much better than I expected. Since there is so much left over, we will make another trip to the store to get a few more things or stock up on some things. I will have to see what I need first.

We got the following items listed above:

3 Avocados at 59 cents each
Broccoli crowns 1.01
Cauliflower 1.73
9 Grapefruit at 33 cents each
8 Tilamook shredded cheese at 1.50 each
15 Yoplait Yogurts at 20 cents each
2 Lemons at 50 cents each
Braeburn apples 1.64
Parmesan cheese in tub 2.49
Hidden Valley Ranch Powder 2 pk. 2.89
Roma tomatoes 73 cents
Oranges 79 cents
Bananas 1.44

Total spent so far..... $33.47

How did you do this week? Did you stay in budget or get any good deals? Link up and share!

  1. That's pretty good! Not bad for a guy shopping :) ... send my Hubby to the store and he comes home with a 3 lb jar of olives because "it looked like a good deal" whereas it's not anywhere on the list....men :)

  2. WOW! He did way better than my hubby would have. If I take him to the store with me I am constantly pulling things out of the cart that he tries to sneak in....lol.

I also wanted to let you know that you guys have inspired me to take a different approach to the frugal lifestyle. After really thinking about the whole couponing and savings I decided this year to focus on keeping my spending within a limit, but buying more ingredients that are fresh and whole. Thank you for opening my eyes and I know I can make this work :)

  3. Thanks for the nice comment. I hope things work out well for you. Trying something different isn't always easy! If there is anything we can do to support you, let us know. Everyone has to find the right balance for themselves, and you will feel good when you get to that point. I am grateful for the extra time I don't spend shopping for food. I enjoy a simpler life and focusing on what is really important. I find that we can live without the extra stuff and I can make treats or crackers if we want them. I like knowing what is in my food. I think my husband is different than most and that is probably because he is in Accounting. He would rather have any extra money in the bank then buying extra groceries!

  4. I think the worst part, for my oldest especially, is the lack of "convenience food". But to make it easier we are going to make our snacks and treats together so she can see that it is possible and this way we have better control of what is going into our food. I am sure I will be checking back quite often for more tips and advice. :)
