$50 Grocery Challenge - Spent $49.91
This week I decided to stock up on unbleached flour since I used a lot last month making 31 different breads in July. I bought 100 pounds of flour, but looking back I wish I had bought just 50 pounds for now. It is making this week a challenge with groceries. I do have some fresh produce left to last a few days as well as lettuce and raspberries and some spinach from our garden. I also have some frozen veggies that we should eat but we don't when there is plenty of fresh produce. My freezer is full. I have plenty of bread in the freezer and lots of meat too. I also have ingredients for several meals left from last week. Well, shopping was really easy this week since I didn't have much to buy!
Breakdown:
44.92 (2) Wheat Montana 50 pound flour
1.20 Roma tomatoes
.35 (2) bananas
1.74 Eggs
1.70 German Brat for my daughter who went shopping with me
Grand Total: $49.91
How did you do with your shopping trip this week? Link up and share!

I'm curious where you were able to find that much flour for such a good price! Is it from a local health food store? I would love to find cheaper flour prices (unbleached or whole wheat flour in particular), so if you have any tips, I'd love to hear. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteCarmen,
ReplyDeleteI got the flour from a local grocery store, but if you buy 50 pounds at a time, it usually costs less than smaller packages. I buy wheat and grind my own wheat flour. I personally wouldn't buy wheat flour in bulk since it will lose vitamins and freshness by the time you use it all. If you have the money, I would definitely consider buying a wheat grinder and grinding it yourself. It will be hard to go back to buying after you do. It tastes better and works better for bread too. I found it cheaper to go through a local grocery store than to buy it from the company itself. I hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know!
