Simple Savings - Call the hotel not the 800 number

If you want to save money on hotels, skip the 800 number and call the hotel directly.  Before you call, take time to see what the competitors are charging.  Sometimes the clerk can help if there are in house specials.  Many times I have to go through a manager, but they have been great.  Some will match prices and some will lower their prices even if they don't match.  We got a Vice Presidential suite once when trying to compare hotels.  The other hotel had free breakfast and dinner, but this hotel didn't, so the manager offered the VP suite.  We had a wonderful time.  I doubt it will ever happen again though - it was too good to be true!  I have found that hotels are very willing to work with you if you take the time to call.  I would prefer to stay in a nicer hotel for the same price as a less expensive hotel, so I am willing to do the work.
