Simple Ways to Save: Is There a Financial "Holy Grail"?

There are many people out there looking for a quick fix for their finances.  For some, they think willing the lottery will take away all their challenges.  For others, they think that there is something out there that is yet to be discovered, that will take away the consequences for bad financial decisions.  The fact of the matter is, it is no use wasting time looking for a "Holy Grail" for your finances.  There are principles that are tried and true that have been out there for hundreds of years.  The problem is that people have heard them before and somehow don’t quite understand the correlation between the discipline to follow these guidelines and financial success.  There are many books written about how to be rich, how to be financially free, how to save lots of money, etc. but most of the principles are the same old things rehashed over and over.  There just is not a quick fix that can replace steady, consistent discipline and financial wisdom.  What are these financial guidelines that will help you to have the financial freedom you want some day?

1.  Live within or below your income.

2.  Stay out of debt.  If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.  Stop using credit cards to pay for things that you can’t pay for in full each month when the statement comes.

3.  Save for a rainy day.

If you follow these 3 simple guidelines, you will find that through time you have the freedom you wish.

  1. #1 tip is very simple and straight to the point. And I agree to this. I all boils down to living what you can afford.

  2. So true. It is easier said than done, don't you agree? We wouldn't have many of the problems we do in this country if most people, including the government, followed these.
