Conquer Clutter: The Car

Sometimes when people start to declutter, they get overwhelmed.  If that happens, start with a small area and realize the rest will happen a little at a time.  Just focus on the area that you are working on.  That may be a drawer, a shelf, or a pile of papers.  Cleaning out the car may be a good place to start.  I remember  reading that Joshua Becker, at Becoming Minimalist, started with their cars first.  The area in a car is manageable.  Take everything out and vacuum out the car really well.  Then, decide just what you need in the car and what you will use.  If you have duplicates of things, pick the one you like the best and get rid of the rest.  After you have figured out what to get rid of, put back the things that belong and then you can focus on what you need in the car that you don't have.  This morning when I cleaned out one of our cars, I noticed that we didn't have an umbrella in the car.  I also noticed that we needed a flashlight with batteries that worked.  Having these things taken care of now will save us some frustration if we were to ever need them.

When was the last time you cleaned out your car?  Celebrate the 4th of July tomorrow with a car "FREE" from clutter.  You will know what you have, have what you need, and feel peace about what you have accomplished.
