Living Green - One Step at a Time: Laundry, Bags & Dishwasher

This week I plan to add these things to our efforts in living a more "Green" life.

First,  hanging the laundry on a rack.  I found one at a garage sale a couple of years ago and got it to try out.  It hasn't been used until recently, when I decided I needed to use it or get rid of it.  If you don't have a rack, you can throw things over your shower curtain rod or hang them on hangers.  A dryer uses a lot of electricity compared to other things in the home.  I still plan to toss the clothes in the dryer for 5-10 minutes to get out the stiffness, especially since it is hard to change a habit cold turkey.

Second, Gather plastic grocery bags that we have hanging around the house and take them to the grocery store to put in their plastic bag recycle bin.

Third, change the settings when we use the dishwasher a shorter wash cycle and eliminate using the sanitize button.  We have already eliminated the heat dry, so this is another step in the right direction.

Think of something you can do to be more earth friendly.  Maybe it is to bring your own cloth bags shopping.  Leaving a bag in the car makes it easier to remember!  Maybe you can take a shorter shower or do a full load of laundry.  Maybe you can wash some of your clothes in cold water.  Maybe you can turn down the thermostat a few degrees and wear a sweater instead.  Instead of looking for a bigger place to live in, why not declutter the place you have now and eliminate the need to move?  Every little bit counts!
