We had some friends over for Memorial Day and they brought a very yummy homemade chocolate sauce. She said I could post it on my blog to share with anyone who is interested. It is much better than Hershey's by a long shot!
1 cube butter
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
Melt butter and chocolate chips. Add evaporated milk and powdered sugar. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 6 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Tastes great over ice cream!
Cost Analysis: $2.60 total for the recipe.
16 servings or 17 cents per serving compared to store cost of 22 cents per serving
Chocolate chips - 87 cents
Evaporated milk - 94 cents
Margarine - 21 cents
Powdered sugar - 58 cents
I got my powdered sugar for 69 cents for the bag so it only cost 23 cents, just to show that if you can shop well, you will spend much less. I also used real butter I got for $1.98, or 50 cents for the cube. Overall my cost was a little cheaper than Walmart prices.
