One of my good friends, who also reads the blog, asked me about Bountiful Baskets: were they a good deal, how much do you get, etc. So, I thought I'd share my thoughts about it. First, though, here is a picture of what I got last week:
Other weeks, I think I have gotten more, but with the pineapple, figs and red pears, I think that's why I didn't get as many items. But I'm not complaining: I LOVE fresh pineapple.
As far as the amount of vegetables and fruits, I think it is probably a little too much for a couple to go through before it starts going bad. On the plus side, we have actually getting the recommended amount of vegetables every day! If you could find a friend, I would definitely split a basket.
Now for the variety, this is a definite plus. I have gotten to try things I normally would never buy. Along with this, I've been able to find some great new recipes. I tried fresh figs for the first time this week, and I made stuffed artichokes the other week, too.
As for the quality, I've been very impressed. Occasionally you will find something that needs to be washed more than usual, but the fruit has always become ripe within a few days. I did notice some of the vegetables became limp in my refrigerator, but I think that may be because of my refrigerator.
It's really easy to get the basket. Just go to the website, and you pay online. Then, you pick it up on the designated day at the time and place listed. Just make sure you order it on either Monday or Tuesday.
I think it's a great idea! It's fun going and getting a surprise basket every week, but I like that kind of thing. If you are the kind of person that has your menu planned to a t, this may not be the best idea.
Hope this helps answer your questions! Anyone else have anything to add?
