Prepare for the Holidays: Deep Clean for November

Now that you finished the October declutter of your home, it is the time to focus on deep cleaning.  Move the beds and vacuum under them.  Wipe down all the baseboards.  Vacuum along the edges between the carpet and the wall.  You get the idea.  By doing the deep cleaning now, before starting any holiday entertaining, you won't have to worry about it during the holidays.  You can focus on easy surface cleaning through the holidays, since you will have all your "ducks in a row".  With less clutter, your home will be much easier to clean.

One method of cleaning is the one they use at Monticello.  They start with one room and start cleaning until it is time to stop.  The next day, they just start where they left off and continue.  This way you don't have to worry about the rest of the house.  Each room will have a turn to be cleaned.  You will get to every room as you cycle through the house over and over a little at a time.  You don't focus on how fast you can go, but on doing a good job and just picking up where you left off the next time you clean.

Another method is to use a timer and clean until the timer goes off.  For some people, this method works well because they can focus for a short time and then be done with it.  It is amazing how much housework can be done in a short time.

Figure out what works best for you and get to work!
