Preparing for the Holidays: October Declutter

For those who missed the previous post about my three month plan to be prepared for the holidays, this month I am just decluttering in my home.  Next month is deep cleaning.  December will be left to enjoy the holidays.  Cleaning should be very minimal to keep things looking good if we prepare ahead.

I finished my kitchen last week and today I worked on the family room downstairs.  It took me about 5-10 minutes max to go through everything and declutter anything I didn't want in the family room.  One of the blessings of keeping the clutter under control is that it doesn't take you long to go through anything.  I found two DVD's and one music book I can get rid of.  I have access to all three of these on the internet and I don't use them very much at all.  A couple of years ago, I decided to keep one drawer of music and one of DVD's.  You can see these in the pictures.  If I decide to buy a new DVD at some point, I will get rid of one that I have.  A true minimalist would get rid of all of them and just rent them online, but I consider myself a moderate minimalist.  For now, this is what I want.  There is a good chance I will change my mind as time goes on, but this is good for now.  Everyone needs to figure out their own balance of what they feel is right for them and that balance changes as our tastes change and our lives change through the years.
