“Mail your packages early so the post office can lose them in time for Christmas.” Johnny Carson
On a limited budget, postage is a big deal. You can blow your whole budget on postage alone. Many times it costs more to mail something than the gift is worth. What is the best way to handle this challenge? In this section, we will share ideas to cover that very concern.
Buy gifts cards. You can send them in letters and won’t have to wait in line at the post office to mail them as well!
Send money and have people buy what you want on their end. This way you don’t have to worry about paying any postage.
Have gifts mailed directly to the recipient. If you order online, this is very easy to do. Even if you chose to pay to have it gift wrapped, it is much cheaper than sending in in the mail yourself.
Plan ahead and bring Christmas gifts with you when you visit at other times of the year. You won’t have to worry about long lines to stand in or pay postage.
For Christmas cards, try sending e-cards to people instead of paper cards. You will save money on postage and save the environment as well. You will also save money because you won’t have to buy paper cards. A website I really like is Jacquie Lawson Cards. She has cute ecards and some have puzzles and games to play. Last time I looked, the cost was $12 per year or $20 for two years. With the subscription, you can send as many ecards as you want. She also has a great selection of birthday cards, and cards for all occasions.
When deciding what to give for gifts, remember to add in the cost of postage to whatever you do, if it is relevant.
